Greater Noida: A tragic incident in Greater Noida has claimed the life of a young engineer after his car fell into a water-filled pit. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has strongly condemned the incident, attributing it to the lack of accountability in urban administration.
The 27-year-old engineer, Yuvraj Mehta, lost his life after his car plunged into a deep pit near a construction site in Sector 150 on Saturday. Despite strenuous efforts to rescue him, Yuvraj could not be saved.
Rahul Gandhi’s Statement
Reacting on social media, Rahul Gandhi said, “In India, roads, bridges, fire, water, pollution, corruption, and indifference have all become life-threatening. Urban areas are collapsing—not due to lack of technology or solutions, but due to a lack of accountability.”
Post-Mortem Findings
According to the post-mortem report, Yuvraj Mehta died of asphyxiation, with cardiac arrest also cited as a cause of death. Police sources confirmed that the report aligns with eyewitness accounts that Yuvraj was trapped in extremely cold water for nearly two hours, waiting for help. Prolonged exposure to freezing water, severe cold, and mental stress contributed to his deteriorating condition, ultimately leading to cardiac arrest.
Family Reaction
Speaking to ANI, Yuvraj’s father, Rajkumar Mehta, said, “My son struggled to save his life, shouting for help, but most people only watched, and some even recorded videos. He fought for nearly two hours, yet officials and staff present were unable to rescue him. The administration’s negligence is evident in this tragedy.”
This incident has once again raised concerns about urban safety and accountability in rapidly developing areas, highlighting the urgent need for better infrastructure and emergency preparedness.
