Dog Becomes the Main Topic Today”: Rahul Gandhi Reacts to Controversy Over Renuka Chowdhury Bringing Dog to Parliament

A political uproar erupted on Tuesday after Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury brought a stray dog inside the Parliament premises. The incident triggered sharp reactions from the ruling party, prompting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to respond with sarcasm, questioning why a harmless dog had become the centre of national debate.

Speaking to the media, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “It seems the dog is the main topic today. What has the poor dog done? Are dogs not allowed here?” He further added that perhaps pets are not permitted inside the complex, but criticized the unnecessary hype around the issue. “I feel this is what India is discussing these days,” he said, taking a dig at the ongoing political narrative.

The controversy began on Monday when Renuka Chowdhury arrived at Parliament with a stray dog in her vehicle. Members of the ruling party accused her of violating parliamentary protocol and alleged that she was indulging in theatrics. In her defence, Chowdhury stated that she was taking the injured stray dog to a veterinarian and simply stopped at Parliament on the way.

Responding to the criticism, she said, “The people sitting inside bite, not the dogs.” She questioned why compassion towards an injured animal was being politicized and dismissed claims that bringing a stray dog violated any law. “There is no law against rescuing a stray animal,” she asserted.

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal demanded action against Chowdhury, claiming she breached Parliament’s security and protocol by bringing in an animal without proper documentation. He emphasized that no member is allowed to bring anything inside the Parliament building without permission, and termed the act a clear violation of rules.

As the debate continues, the incident has sparked conversations on parliamentary decorum, compassion toward animals, and the priorities dominating political discourse in the country.
