For the first time in Delhi, residents and officials will be able to experience a houseboat on the Yamuna River. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is preparing a wooden houseboat convention center at Bansera Park, which will serve as a venue for meetings, conferences, and dining experiences. The DDA is expected to issue tenders for the project soon. The concept was envisioned by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena.
Project Overview
The houseboat project has officially commenced along the Yamuna waterfront at Bansera Park, part of ongoing efforts to develop the area as a public recreational space. The houseboat is expected to be open to the public by May–June 2026.
Key features of the houseboat include:
- Eco-friendly construction: Entirely made of biodegradable wood, with no steel or concrete to protect the Yamuna floodplain’s ecology.
- Structure and layout: The boat will stand 9 meters tall, comprising a ground level, lower level, middle level, and upper deck.
- Material and craftsmanship: The base will use cedar wood, with carvings in walnut and cedar, and interior walls and ceiling panels in chinar wood. Skilled craftsmen will construct the boat, which will be placed near Bansera’s eating house.
Officials and visitors will be able to host events, conferences, and enjoy dining facilities, creating a unique blend of recreational and professional space along the Yamuna.
This project reflects Delhi’s efforts to revitalize the Yamuna riverfront and provide innovative public spaces combining culture, ecology, and modern utility.
