Delhi to Dehradun in Just 2.5 Hours: Greenfield Expressway Ready with Tunnels and Elevated Routes

Traveling from Delhi to Dehradun is about to become faster and more convenient than ever. What used to take 6–7 hours can now be completed in just 2.5 hours, thanks to the completion of the Delhi–Dehradun Greenfield Expressway. The state-of-the-art highway is expected to open to the public soon, promising a smooth and scenic drive.

Greenfield Expressway: A Milestone Project

The 210-kilometer-long expressway has been constructed at a cost of approximately ₹11,970 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Once operational, it will significantly improve connectivity between Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Several trial runs on the expressway have been successfully conducted, and remaining works are being expedited for early inauguration.

Route Highlights

The expressway begins near Akshardham in Delhi, with a large elevated corridor starting from Geeta Colony. It passes through Baghpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur before entering Uttarakhand. A key link road near Baghpat connects it to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, while the rest of the highway is entirely new (greenfield).

The first toll plaza is located in Loni, approximately 17 kilometers from Delhi. For emergencies, ambulances and highway patrol vehicles are stationed along the route, and travelers can call the highway helpline number 1033 for assistance.

World-Class Facilities for Travelers

  • Electric Vehicle Charging: Stations every 30 km.
  • Rest Areas and Food Outlets: Comfortable stops for travelers.
  • Miyawaki Plantation: Trees planted along exit loops to enhance safety and environmental sustainability.
  • Elevated Sections & Wildlife Protection: The expressway traverses the Shivalik Hills and Rajaji National Park, featuring animal corridors, elevated roads for elephants, and wildlife-friendly lighting developed in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India.
  • Noise and Safety Measures: Includes sound barriers, plastic noise shields, and specially designed road safety infrastructure.
  • Scenic Tunnel: A 300-meter-long tunnel beautifully decorated with images and artwork reflecting Uttarakhand’s rich culture.

Once operational, this greenfield expressway promises not only to cut travel time drastically but also to provide a safe, eco-friendly, and visually stunning journey from Delhi to Dehradun.
