Delhi on High Alert Ahead of Republic Day; Al-Qaeda Terrorist Mohammed Rehan’s Photo Released for Public Awareness

Delhi Police has gone on high alert ahead of the 77th Republic Day, following intelligence inputs about potential terrorist threats. As part of the security measures, the capital’s law enforcement agencies have released the photo of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operative, Mohammed Rehan. Officials say Rehan is a Delhi resident and has been on the radar of the police and intelligence agencies for an extended period. This marks the first time his image has been publicly shared on an alert poster.

Multi-Layered Security and Surveillance

Additional Commissioner of Police, Devesh Kumar Mahla, stated that nearly 10,000 police personnel, along with paramilitary forces, will be deployed across key areas, including Rajpath, to ensure the security of the Republic Day celebrations. The entire area is being monitored through an extensive CCTV network integrated with advanced Facial Recognition Systems (FRS), allowing authorities to respond promptly to any suspicious activity.

Ground Preparations and Drills

The security setup has already undergone nine briefings and rehearsals to ensure seamless execution. Special attention is being given to crowded areas, sensitive locations, and border points. Vehicles and individuals in the vicinity are being thoroughly screened, while drones and other technical monitoring systems are actively in use. Delhi Police has urged the public to report any suspicious activity or persons immediately to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.

About Mohammed Rehan

According to Delhi Police, Mohammed Rehan is actively associated with AQIS and has been involved in efforts to strengthen terrorist networks in the capital. Intelligence inputs suggest he has been recruiting and radicalizing youth for extremist activities. Authorities fear he could be linked to potential major terrorist plots, prompting the public release of his photograph to facilitate swift apprehension.

This proactive approach underscores Delhi Police’s commitment to ensuring the Republic Day celebrations remain secure and incident-free.
