Baramati, Maharashtra: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar tragically lost his life in a plane crash on Wednesday. The aircraft went out of control while attempting to land at an airport in Baramati and caught fire after the crash. All six people on board, including Ajit Pawar and two crew members, were killed.
The news has elicited an outpouring of grief from leaders across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed their condolences.
In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi described Ajit Pawar as a leader deeply connected to the people and grounded in grassroots politics. He stated, “Ajit Pawar was a true public servant, dedicated to the service of Maharashtra’s citizens. He was widely respected as a diligent leader. His understanding of administrative matters and his commitment to empowering the poor and marginalized were remarkable. I am deeply saddened and shocked by his untimely demise. My condolences to his family and countless supporters. Om Shanti.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his profound grief, writing, “It is with great sorrow that we learn of the passing of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and our senior NDA colleague, Mr. Ajit Pawar, in today’s tragic accident. Over the past three and a half decades, Mr. Pawar devoted himself tirelessly to the welfare of every section of Maharashtra’s population. His demise is a personal loss to me as well as to the NDA family. My deepest sympathies to the Pawar family. May God grant peace to the departed soul. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote, “The news of the tragic plane crash claiming the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Ajit Pawar and his fellow passengers is extremely distressing. My thoughts are with the people of Maharashtra in this time of grief. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Pawar family and their loved ones.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her sorrow, stating, “The untimely demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Ajit Pawar in this unfortunate plane accident is deeply saddening and shocking. His passing is an irreparable loss to Indian politics, especially to Maharashtra. My heartfelt sympathies to his grieving family and supporters.
