A deepfake video falsely featuring Sudha Murty, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, has been circulating widely on social media, misleading people with fake investment claims and promises of massive financial returns.
Cyber fraudsters are increasingly using artificial intelligence and deepfake technology to exploit the credibility of well-known personalities. In the latest case, an edited video allegedly shows Sudha Murty promoting a fraudulent investment scheme, claiming that several investors are earning up to ₹10 lakh per month.
The video, shared from a handle named “Triade Wine”, urges viewers to click on a link and register quickly, creating a false sense of urgency by stating that registrations are being closed due to high demand. Clicking the link redirects users to a fake news-style website, carefully designed to steal personal and financial information.
Public Advised Not to Click Unverified Links
Authorities and cyber safety experts have warned the public against clicking on unverified or suspicious links and falling for unrealistic investment promises. Such scams often rely on emotional manipulation, urgency, and the misuse of trusted public figures to gain credibility.
What the Fake Video Claims
In the manipulated clip, Sudha Murty is falsely shown claiming that many investors have already joined the scheme and are earning lakhs every month. The video urges viewers to register “before the end of the day” to avoid missing out on the so-called opportunity—classic tactics commonly used in online financial scams.
Sudha Murty Reacts, Calls Video Completely Fake
Reacting strongly, Sudha Murty expressed deep concern over the misuse of her face and voice to promote fraudulent schemes. She clarified that the video is entirely fake and has been created using AI-powered deepfake technology.
“I am extremely worried about these fake messages and videos that use my face and voice to promote investments claiming 20 to 30 times returns. This is completely false,” she said.
She categorically stated that she never promotes or discusses investment opportunities, adding a clear warning to the public:
“If you ever see my face or hear my voice promoting any investment, please do not believe it. This is your hard-earned money. Think carefully, verify with banks or trusted sources, and only then take any decision.”
Rising Threat of AI-Based Financial Scams
This incident highlights the growing threat posed by AI-driven cyber fraud, where deepfake videos are being weaponized to deceive unsuspecting citizens. Experts stress the urgent need for digital awareness, stricter monitoring of social media platforms, and swift legal action against such fraudsters.
The case serves as a strong reminder that celebrity endorsements in viral videos should never be trusted without verification, especially when they promise unusually high financial returns.
