New Delhi: On the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament 2025, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury made headlines for bringing a dog into the Parliament premises in her car. Chowdhury explained that she found the dog injured in a road accident and brought it along to ensure its safety. When questioned about the controversy, she famously remarked, “Those who bite are sitting inside.”
Parliamentary Privilege Motion in Consideration
The incident, along with her statement, drew sharp criticism from opposition parties. The ruling party described it as a mockery of Parliament and a violation of parliamentary decorum, and it has now emerged that the Rajya Sabha is considering a privilege motion against her for the breach.
Chowdhury’s Response: ‘Woof-Woof’
When asked about the possible privilege motion, she humorously responded, “Woof-woof,” before moving on. Later, she elaborated, highlighting broader issues, saying:
“People are dying due to pollution, BLOs are committing suicide, their families are ruined, labor laws are being imposed on us, and the Sanchaar Saathi app is being forced upon us. Yet, everyone is upset because of my dog. What else can I say? I will continue to take care of animals. There is no law preventing dogs from entering the Parliament premises.”
Invoking Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Example
Chowdhury also cited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, noting that he had once arrived at Parliament in a bullock cart. She added,
“Dogs are loyal, but what do these people know about loyalty? Should Kiren Rijiju issue us character certificates? They should first look at their own party. Your ministers run over farmers with vehicles. Let them do what they want; why should I worry?”
The incident has reignited debates over Parliamentary decorum, animal rights, and the scope of privilege motions, making Renuka Chowdhury once again a central figure in political discussions.
