Congress Appoints Observers for Assembly Elections in Five States and UTs

New Delhi: The Congress party has appointed senior observers for the upcoming assembly elections in five states and union territories: West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. The appointments were made under the direction of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

According to a statement issued by the party’s Organisation General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have been assigned to oversee Assam, while Party General Secretary Sachin Pilot has been entrusted with responsibility for Kerala.

State-wise Appointment of Observers

  • Assam: Bhupesh Baghel, D.K. Shivakumar, and Bandhu Tirkey
  • Kerala: Sachin Pilot, K.J. George, Imran Pratapgarhi, and Kanhaiya Kumar
  • Tamil Nadu & Puducherry: Mukul Wasnik, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin
  • West Bengal: Sudeep Roy Barman, Shakeel Ahmed Khan, and Prakash Joshi

The assembly elections in these states and UTs are expected to be held around March-April this year.

Confidence in Experienced Leaders

The appointments reaffirm Congress’s trust in its senior leaders. The party has also strengthened its confidence in Sachin Pilot, who was previously in charge of Chhattisgarh during the Lok Sabha elections. Bhupesh Baghel has been given the critical responsibility of leading the party’s campaign in Assam. The party has emphasized that it is determined not to leave any room for error in Assam, where Priyanka Gandhi had earlier been appointed as head of the screening committee.
