New Delhi: Large parts of India continue to experience winter chill, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for fog, rain, and snowfall in several northern regions on Wednesday. Weather conditions are expected to remain largely stable, though higher Himalayan areas may witness light rain and isolated snowfall.
Delhi-NCR Forecast
Dense morning fog reduced visibility across Delhi and the National Capital Region at daybreak. The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of around 22°C and a minimum of about 8–9°C, keeping the cold firmly in place. Light winds and high humidity levels are likely to make mornings feel colder. Temperatures are expected to remain close to seasonal averages over the next five days.
Uttar Pradesh Outlook
Uttar Pradesh is likely to see clear skies with light morning haze that should dissipate quickly. There is a possibility of light rain in isolated pockets, though most of the day is expected to remain dry. The maximum temperature is forecast near 22–23°C, with a minimum around 11°C. Humidity levels may hover near 75%, contributing to a chilly start to the day.
Rajasthan Conditions
Rajasthan may see a slight rise in minimum temperatures over the coming days, offering mild relief from the cold. The IMD predicts dry weather across most parts of the state for the next three to four days, with partly cloudy skies in some areas. Moderate to dense fog is expected in parts of the Bharatpur division. A new western disturbance is likely to influence northwest India from the night of February 8, potentially changing weather conditions thereafter.
Temperatures in Major Cities
Several major cities are expected to record winter-normal readings:
- Delhi: 22°C / 9°C
- Mumbai: 31°C / 23°C
- Chennai: 28°C / 22°C
- Kolkata: 28°C / 16°C
- Lucknow: 23°C / 11°C
- Patna: 24°C / 12°C
- Jaipur: 23°C / 10°C
- Bhopal: 27°C / 14°C
- Shimla: 16°C / 2°C
- Manali: -2°C / -11°C
Tamil Nadu Forecast
Tamil Nadu is expected to witness varied weather over the next two days, including mild cold, morning fog, and light rain in some districts. Western and northwestern regions may experience moderate fog, particularly in hilly and interior areas. Districts such as the Nilgiris, Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Ranipet are likely to see reduced visibility in early morning hours.
Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution while traveling on highways and ghat roads due to fog. Light rainfall, though not intense, could provide relief from prolonged dry conditions and benefit standing crops in agricultural belts.
Overall, meteorologists say winter conditions will persist across northern India, with localized weather disturbances shaping short-term variations.
