New Delhi: The Lok Sabha witnessed chaos once again on Tuesday during the budget session, as opposition MPs clashed with the ruling benches over the Ladakh border dispute. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi raised the issue, urging the government to provide clarity, while the Chair repeatedly requested MPs to rely on “authentic sources.”
Tensions escalated when opposition members accused the government of misleading the House on India-China border matters. They protested the Chair’s decisions and demanded that the opposition leader be allowed to speak on the issue. In the midst of the uproar, several opposition MPs approached the podium near the Chair, and papers were reportedly thrown toward the Chair.
Reprimand Over ‘Yaar’ Remark
Chairperson Krishna Prasad Tennati, presiding over the proceedings, intervened sharply when one MP addressed the Chair as “Yaar.” Tennati remarked: “What is this ‘Yaar’? You cannot address the Chair in this manner. This is Parliament, this is the Lok Sabha.” The Chair emphasized that repeated requests had been made to the Leader of the Opposition to speak on the President’s address.
Opposition MPs Refuse to Speak
Following the incident, the Chair called on Naresh Uttam Patel of the Samajwadi Party to speak, but he refused, as did other opposition speakers. Amid continued slogans and uproar, TDP MP G.M. Harish Balayogi stood to speak on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. However, as the chaos persisted, the House was adjourned until 3:00 PM.
The incident highlights the rising tensions in Parliament over sensitive national issues and underscores the challenges faced by the Chair in maintaining decorum during heated debates.
