Budget Boosts Internal and Border Security; Allocation Significantly Higher Than Last Year

The government has strengthened its focus on internal security and border vigilance in the Union Budget 2026-27, allocating ₹2,55,233 crore to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). This represents an increase of ₹22,023 crore compared to the previous financial year, when the MHA received ₹2,33,210 crore. The budget aims to curb terrorist attacks, prevent cross-border infiltration, and enhance intelligence gathering to ensure timely and precise action.

CAPFs Receive Largest Share
Out of the total MHA allocation, ₹1,73,802 crore has been earmarked for police operations. This funding will strengthen central armed police forces such as CRPF, BSF, and ITBP. Measures include fencing along borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, and Myanmar, deployment of anti-drone systems, and installation of advanced surveillance technologies.

The CRPF, playing a key role in combating Naxalism, has been allocated ₹38,517 crore, an increase of ₹3,370 crore from last year. The BSF receives ₹29,567 crore.

Focus on Intelligence and State Police Forces
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) receives ₹6,782 crore, up ₹2,889 crore from the previous budget. Delhi Police’s budget rises from ₹11,931 crore to ₹12,503 crore, while Jammu & Kashmir Police gets ₹9,925 crore, up ₹600 crore. The SPG also sees a modest increase of ₹10 crore.

Strengthening Border Security
With enhanced funding, the government is emphasizing border and internal security, including anti-infiltration measures and deployment of anti-drone systems following operations like Sindoor. The budget reflects a strong commitment to ensuring safety through modern technology, enhanced monitoring, and well-equipped security forces.
