BJP Targets Congress After Imran Masood Advocates “Replace Rahul Gandhi with Priyanka Gandhi”

New Delhi:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on the Congress following a statement by party leader Imran Masood, who publicly called for Priyanka Gandhi to be made Prime Minister, saying Rahul Gandhi should be removed. BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala claimed that Masood’s remarks clearly indicate that even the Gandhi family lacks confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

“Rahul Out, Priyanka In” Slogan Gains Attention

Speaking at a press conference, Poonawala said, “Imran Masood has made it clear that Rahul Gandhi has lost public support, and no one trusts him anymore. The new slogan is now ‘Remove Rahul, bring Priyanka.’” According to BJP, Masood’s statement reflects internal dissatisfaction within the Congress and highlights a push for leadership change.

Background of Masood’s Statement

The controversy began when Masood, speaking to the media on the Bangladesh issue, advocated making Priyanka Gandhi Prime Minister. He reportedly said, “Make Priyanka Gandhi the Prime Minister, and you will get a response like Indira Gandhi.” Poonawala argued that this endorsement shows that Rahul Gandhi no longer has the confidence of his party colleagues, including Robert Vadra, who allegedly supports the idea.

Internal Dissent Within Congress

Poonawala further cited previous instances of dissent within the Congress, referencing Odisha Congress leader Mohammad Moquim, who had also called for Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to step down in favor of Priyanka Gandhi before being suspended by the party. According to BJP, these statements underscore growing unrest and calls for leadership change within the Congress.

Political Implications

The statement by Masood has intensified the spotlight on the Congress’s internal politics. BJP is attempting to capitalize on this perceived leadership vacuum and is pressing the issue of public and party confidence in Rahul Gandhi. Analysts suggest that the Congress now faces mounting pressure to clarify its leadership strategy and address calls for change.
