New Delhi: Amid a political storm over the recent demolition activity near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque at Delhi’s historic Turkman Gate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly hit back at opposition parties, rejecting allegations that the mosque was damaged during the bulldozer drive.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla expressed regret that even the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs made similar claims and labeled the opposition coalition, “INDIA”, as the “Rawalpindi Bloc.”
Poonawalla described the allegations as fabricated propaganda and clarified that no part of the mosque structure was harmed. The demolition, he said, was carried out under the directive of the Delhi High Court and targeted illegal commercial structures—including a diagnostic center and a wedding hall—built adjacent to the mosque. Officials from the Delhi government and police repeatedly assured that the mosque remained completely untouched.
Deliberate Misinformation, Says BJP
The BJP spokesperson accused opposition parties of deliberately portraying a lawful civic action as an attack on a religious structure. He stated that this misinformation campaign was not coincidental but a calculated plot, quickly amplified by Pakistan. Poonawalla questioned whether the narrative had been scripted elsewhere, with Indian opposition parties merely echoing it.
Parallels with Past Events
Referring to previous instances, Poonawalla noted that opposition parties had similarly aligned with Pakistan’s narrative during the revocation of Article 370, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), surgical strikes, and the Balakot airstrikes. He quipped that, for some leaders, LoP no longer meant “Leader of the Opposition” but rather “Leader of Propaganda for Pakistan.”
Opposition Fueling Unrest
Poonawalla specifically targeted the Congress, TMC, left parties, and Samajwadi Party, accusing them of ignoring court orders and instigating unrest. He went on to label the Congress as “Islamabad National Congress”, asserting that the opposition coalition was actively collaborating with foreign powers to tarnish India’s image.
