Artificial Intelligence Bringing Benefits to Every Section of Indian Society

New Delhi: India is witnessing an AI-driven transformation that extends beyond technology, aiming to empower women, skill the youth, and provide security and opportunities for workers in the unorganized sector. The upcoming India-AI Impact Summit next month will bring global AI experts together to discuss ways of making AI inclusive, practical, and beneficial for all, rather than focusing solely on machines, algorithms, or automation.

India AI Mission: Empowerment Through Technology

Launched in March 2024, the India AI Mission seeks to develop AI capabilities across the country. Its initiatives include:

  • Expanding computing power and opening new innovation centers.
  • Creating trustworthy data platforms and AI-based applications.
  • Skill development for youth and financial support for startups.

As a result, AI is now being leveraged across education, healthcare, laboratories, and agriculture, impacting lives across sectors.

Inclusive Development Focus

The India AI Innovation Centers are promoting inclusive development, creating AI tools that understand India’s linguistic and social diversity. These systems are designed to meet the needs of women, farmers, gig workers, and small businesses.

Women Empowerment Through AI

AI is not only driving productivity but also enabling financial independence and opportunities for women in India’s gig economy. Female entrepreneurs are growing their businesses via AI-driven online marketplaces, while women drivers and delivery partners are benefiting from digital empowerment tools.

In semi-urban and rural areas, regional-language AI assistants are helping less-educated women manage finances and access services. AI systems are also being deployed for women’s safety, including emergency response solutions.

Youth and Skills Development

For India’s youth, AI represents the future of employment and innovation. Training programs, ranging from digital literacy to advanced machine learning (AML), are preparing a new generation of skilled AI professionals. The AI for All initiative focuses on providing basic AI knowledge and hands-on learning to young people across the country.

AI in Agriculture and Finance

AI is revolutionizing agriculture by predicting pest attacks and weather risks, helping farmers make informed decisions. Fintech companies are using AI to provide loans to women entrepreneurs outside traditional banking systems, thereby promoting financial inclusion.

Empowering All Sections

A report by the NITI Aayog highlights how AI can enhance access to healthcare, education, skill development, and financial services, empowering millions of unorganized sector workers. With AI adoption increasing, ethical and fair usage is crucial. India’s AI revolution should deliver opportunities to rural women, remote youth, and startup founders, ensuring equitable benefits across society.

In India, the success of AI will be measured not by its algorithms, but by the opportunities it creates for all citizens.
