New Delhi: In the midst of ongoing tariff disputes, India has received a positive signal regarding U.S.-India relations. Sergio Gaur, the new U.S. Ambassador to India, has indicated that President Donald Trump is expected to visit India in the near future.
Trump and Modi’s Strong Friendship
Ambassador Gaur highlighted the close relationship between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that their friendship is genuine, emphasizing, “I have traveled extensively with President Trump and can personally vouch for the depth of their bond. True friends may disagree, but they ultimately resolve differences.”
Referring to Trump’s previous visit to India, Gaur said, “President Trump spoke fondly of India and his deep friendship with the great Prime Minister. I expect he will visit us soon, perhaps within the next year or two.” He also added a light-hearted note about Trump’s habit of calling at 2 a.m., which due to the time difference, may actually be convenient in New Delhi.
Trade Deal Updates
Addressing ongoing concerns about the U.S.-India trade deal, Ambassador Gaur reassured, “Both sides are actively negotiating. The next round of discussions is scheduled for tomorrow. India is the world’s largest democracy, so finalizing the deal is not a simple task, but we are committed to completing it.”
He stressed that while trade is crucial, both countries also collaborate on security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health, reinforcing the multi-dimensional nature of the U.S.-India partnership.
PaxSilica Initiative and India’s Inclusion
Ambassador Gaur shared encouraging news about India’s invitation to join PaxSilica. Launched last month, PaxSilica is a U.S.-led strategic initiative aimed at creating a secure, resilient, and innovation-driven supply chain across key sectors, including critical minerals, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI development, and logistics.
Currently, member countries include Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Israel. Ambassador Gaur confirmed, “I am pleased to announce that next month India will be invited to join this group as a full member.”
This visit and India’s inclusion in PaxSilica signal strengthened bilateral cooperation and strategic engagement, even amid ongoing trade tensions, marking a positive trajectory in U.S.-India relations.
