
New Delhi: The Budget Session of Parliament commenced on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Calling for cooperation across party lines, the President urged all Members of Parliament to work together to ensure the smooth functioning of the House, drawing applause from the treasury benches.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to “true social justice”, President Murmu said the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” has brought transformative change to the lives of citizens across the country.

President Murmu appealed to all MPs to rise above political differences and contribute constructively to the functioning of Parliament during the Budget Session. - Foundation for a Developed India
She said India has strengthened its foundations across all sectors over the past 10–11 years, making 2026 a crucial base year for achieving the goal of a Developed India by 2047. - Progress in Social Justice
Highlighting the government’s focus on inclusive growth, the President said nearly 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty in the last decade. - Expansion of Social Security Coverage
She noted that while only 25 crore citizens had access to social security schemes in 2014, the number has now risen to around 95 crore beneficiaries. - Tribute to National Icons
The President recalled nationwide celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, and commemorations linked to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, saying these events strengthened national unity. - Entering the Second Phase of the Century
President Murmu observed that with 2026, India has entered the second phase of the 21st century, with the first 25 years marked by achievements, pride, and transformative experiences. - Inclusive Governance

Referring to the Developed India–Gram Act, the President said the law aims to boost rural development and guarantee 125 days of employment in villages. The mention triggered protests from opposition MPs, while NDA members supported the move by thumping desks. - Warning Against Misuse of Artificial Intelligence
The President cautioned against the misuse of AI, particularly deepfakes and fake content, describing them as serious threats to democracy, social harmony, and public trust. - National Security and Farmers’ Welfare
President Murmu highlighted the success of Operation Sindoor, decisive action against Maoist extremism—now confined to just eight districts—and reiterated that farmers’ prosperity remains a top priority, citing the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
Concluding her address, President Murmu said that the Developed India–G RAM G Act would accelerate rural development, curb corruption and leakages, and create new opportunities for farmers, livestock rearers, and fishermen.
