AIIMS Delhi Enhances CT Scan Access for OPD Patients, Aims to Become Global Medical Research Hub

Patients visiting AIIMS Delhi for treatment will soon experience faster CT scan services, as the hospital takes steps to reduce long waiting times. To ensure timely care, AIIMS has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from reputed private diagnostic centers to provide CT scans at subsidized rates for OPD patients.

Faster CT Scan Services

Under the new initiative, patients referred by AIIMS will not have to wait more than four days for CT scans at partnered private centers. The move aims to alleviate the growing patient load at the hospital and prevent delays in diagnosing severe cases. The private centers on the panel cannot charge more than the CGHS-prescribed rates, and patients will not make direct payments. Instead, fees will be collected by AIIMS, which will remit payments monthly to the diagnostic centers upon completion of scans.

Free Services for Underprivileged Patients

The system also mandates that a specified number of scans be provided free of cost to economically disadvantaged patients. Moreover, no extra charges will be levied for sedation during scans. Participating diagnostic centers must be within a 10 km radius of AIIMS and will be contracted for two years, starting with a six-month pilot phase. Patients will be able to book appointments via AIIMS e-Hospital (HIS) system, ensuring smoother scheduling and accessibility.

Vision to Become a Global Medical Hub

AIIMS Delhi is also on a mission to emerge as a leading medical research and practice institute globally. In line with this vision, the central government has taken major steps, including forming a high-level committee led by NITI Aayog member Dr. V.K. Paul. The committee will review existing systems and processes at AIIMS and develop a comprehensive roadmap for reforms, enhancing both patient care and research capabilities.

This initiative positions AIIMS Delhi not only as a top healthcare provider in India but also as a potential global hub for medical research and innovation.
