New Delhi: Following recent trade agreements with the European Union and the United States, India is now looking forward to a major trade deal with France. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent social media post regarding French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit signals strong enthusiasm for strengthening bilateral ties.

PM Modi Welcomes Macron

On Tuesday, PM Modi expressed his excitement about Macron’s three-day official visit to India, tweeting on ‘X’ in response to a post by the French President. In his message, Modi wrote: “Welcome to India! We are excited about your visit and taking our bilateral relationship to new heights. I am confident our discussions will further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors and contribute to global progress. My dear friend Emmanuel Macron, see you in Mumbai and then in Delhi.”

Earlier, President Macron had tweeted while en route to India: “Departing for India for a three-day journey from Mumbai to New Delhi… to further advance our strategic partnership. Accompanying me are leaders from business, economic, industrial, cultural, and digital sectors who are helping make India-France relations real and concrete. We will take our cooperation further. My dear friend Narendra Modi, see you tomorrow.”

Purpose of the Visit

President Macron’s visit, from 17–19 February, is at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. Macron will attend the AI (Artificial Intelligence) Summit hosted in India and participate in bilateral meetings in Mumbai to review progress in India-France strategic cooperation. This marks Macron’s fourth visit to India and his first to Mumbai.

Significance

The visit is expected to pave the way for strengthened trade and strategic partnerships, building on India’s recent international agreements and signaling a deeper engagement with France across technology, commerce, and innovation sectors.
