In a major boost to healthcare research in India, 20 AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) institutes across the country have come together to form a pan-India research consortium, aiming to address critical health challenges from artificial intelligence–driven treatments to affordable cancer care.
The historic agreement was formalized during a meeting of all AIIMS directors held in New Delhi, where the institutes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on large-scale, multi-center research projects.
Collaborative Research Across India
Under this consortium, AIIMS institutes will jointly conduct studies and clinical trials across multiple locations, leveraging their combined expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and extensive patient networks. Participating institutes include AIIMS New Delhi, Bathinda, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Beebinagar, Bilaspur, Devghar, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kalyani, Madurai, Mangalagiri, Nagpur, Patna, Raebareli, Raipur, Rajkot, and Rishikesh.
This collaborative approach is expected to enhance the quality and scope of health research in India, ensuring that findings are both practical and scalable at a national level.
Focus Areas
The consortium plans to prioritize research on key national health challenges, including:
- AI-based diagnostic and treatment solutions
- Affordable cancer therapies
- Hospital-acquired infections
- Metabolic disorders like diabetes
Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, described the initiative as “a significant step towards advancing high-quality research that addresses India’s pressing healthcare needs.” Prof. Nikhil Tandon, Dean of Research at AIIMS New Delhi, added that the consortium would allow multiple AIIMS institutes to work jointly on complex health issues, increasing the scale, impact, and reliability of research outcomes.
This nationwide collaboration marks a new era in India’s healthcare research, aiming to harness the collective strength of the country’s premier medical institutions for innovative solutions that can benefit millions of patients.
