Ujjain Airport to Become a Symbol of Madhya Pradesh’s Pride: CM Dr. Mohan Yadav

Jabalpur, November 3, 2025

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that Ujjain, the sacred city of Lord Mahakal, is set to soar to new heights of development with the construction of its own airport — a project that will place the city firmly on the global aviation map. Describing it as a “gift to Baba Mahakal,” the Chief Minister said the airport will not only strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s air connectivity but also become a matter of spiritual and national pride.

The Ujjain Airport project aims to be completed before the Simhastha Mahakumbh in 2028, ensuring that millions of devotees from across India and abroad can reach the holy city with ease and comfort. Dr. Yadav said, “This airport is not merely a construction project; it is a symbol of devotion, service, and self-respect for our state.”

He emphasized that the Madhya Pradesh government, with the support of the Central Government, is moving swiftly towards its vision of enabling “every citizen wearing slippers to experience air travel.” Once completed, Madhya Pradesh will become the first Indian state to have two international airports along with interstate and intrastate air services.

Under the leadership of CM Dr. Yadav, the state is witnessing a planned expansion in aviation infrastructure through the development of airstrips in all districts, enabling air connectivity to even the remotest regions through small aircraft and helicopter services.

A Historic Agreement Signed
On November 1, 2025, during the Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day celebrations, a major milestone was achieved when the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the designated development agency signed an MoU to transform the existing Datana-Matana airstrip into a modern airport. The event was attended by Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

According to Additional Chief Secretary (Aviation) Mr. Sanjay Kumar Shukla, the MoU finalizes the development framework for Ujjain Airport, while the government is also considering proposals for new airports in other districts to further enhance air connectivity.

Ujjain – From Ancient Sanctity to Modern Skyline
Ujjain, the spiritual capital of India, revered for its timeless association with faith, knowledge, and cosmic energy, is now set to embrace modern infrastructure while preserving its divine heritage. Dr. Yadav said, “With the blessings of Baba Mahakal, Madhya Pradesh is scripting new dimensions of development. Ujjain Airport will not just connect the city to the skies, but also become a witness to the flight of devotion, prosperity, and good governance.”

Expanding Air Infrastructure Across the State
With Ujjain Airport becoming the ninth operational airport in Madhya Pradesh, the state’s aviation network continues to grow rapidly. Until FY 2023–24, airports were operational in Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Khajuraho. In FY 2024–25, Rewa, Datia, and Satna airports were completed. With Ujjain joining the list, the total number of airports will rise to nine.

The state has also become the first in India to launch PM Shri Air Ambulance Service, PM Shri Aerial Tourism Airplane Service, and PM Shri Helicopter Tourism Service, marking the beginning of comprehensive intra-state air connectivity.

The new Ujjain Airport is expected to redefine the future of tourism, trade, and faith-based travel in Madhya Pradesh — transforming the ancient city of Avanti into a global gateway of spiritual and economic growth.
