Tension in Sagar After Shivling Vandalized; Hindu Groups Demand Demolition of Accused’s House

Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): A tense situation erupted in Sagar city after an act of vandalism inside a local temple, where a youth allegedly damaged the jalhari (base) of a Shivling. The incident triggered widespread outrage among Hindu organizations, who took to the streets in protest, demanding strict action against the accused and calling for his house to be demolished.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Wahid Mukeri, a local egg vendor. Witnesses allege that he entered the temple premises and damaged the Shivling’s base. Enraged by the act, several Hindu groups blocked roads and raised slogans demanding justice.

Police Swiftly Arrest Accused

Acting quickly, the Sagar Police arrested Wahid Mukeri within hours of the incident. Authorities have also removed egg and meat shops situated near the temple area to prevent further unrest.

ASP Lokesh Sinha confirmed the arrest and stated that the accused “appears to be mentally unstable.” He further added that investigators are probing whether the act was part of a larger conspiracy or an individual misdeed.

Protesters Demand Bulldozer Action

Despite the arrest, protestors remain firm on their demand to demolish the accused’s house, similar to previous actions taken under the state’s anti-riot measures. Security has been tightened around the temple and in sensitive localities to maintain peace.

ASP Sinha appealed for calm, assuring that the matter is being investigated thoroughly. “People have been counselled, and the situation in the area is currently peaceful,” he said.
