Steve Smith to Lead Australia, Explosive Debutant Dropped Ahead of First Ashes Test

**
New Delhi:
Cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the Ashes 2025-26, with the five-match Test series kicking off on 21 November at Optus Stadium, Perth. Australia has now announced its squad for the first Test, stepping into the contest with Steve Smith at the helm in the absence of Pat Cummins.

Sam Constances Dropped from First Test

Australia’s 20-year-old fiery opener Sam Constances, who made headlines during his debut against India in Melbourne’s Boxing Day Test 2024, has been omitted from the first Test squad. Constances had troubled the Indian bowling attack with aggressive strokes, scoring 60 runs in his maiden Test innings, including attacking shots off Jasprit Bumrah. However, a recent lean patch with the bat has led to his exclusion from the first match.

In contrast, Jake Weatherald has earned a maiden call-up. With 13 first-class centuries and over 5,000 runs, Weatherald brings significant experience to the squad and could bolster Australia’s batting lineup.
