The Department of Commerce at Samrat Vikramaditya University, Ujjain, celebrated National Unity Day to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Vandana Gupta, Principal of Government Kalidas Girls College, inspired students with her thought-provoking message —
“India is like a rainbow — where the beauty of unity resides within the diversity of colors. This is the true essence of Indian identity.”
She further emphasized that India, a vast and ancient land, has always been home to countless cultures, religions, languages, and lifestyles that have flourished together for thousands of years.
“This diversity is so profound that it sometimes feels unbelievable that all of it belongs to a single nation — yet together, it creates a harmonious and mesmerizing picture we proudly call Indian-ness,” Prof. Gupta remarked.
During the event, students took a solemn pledge to preserve the nation’s unity, integrity, and security, reaffirming their commitment to the ideals that Sardar Patel envisioned.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Shailendra Kumar Bharal, Head of the Department of Commerce, highlighted the monumental role played by Sardar Patel in shaping modern India.
“Without Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s relentless efforts, it would be difficult to imagine the unified India we see today. He laid the foundation for a strong, integrated, and administratively cohesive nation. His vision and determination remain a guiding force for every Indian,” he said.
The event was conducted by Dr. Nagesh Parashar, and was graced by the presence of Dr. Ashish Mehta, Dr. Neha Mathur, Dr. Anubha Gupta, Dr. Kainat Tawar, Dr. Parimita Singh, Mr. Mukesh Bathania, Mr. Praveen Sharma, and Mr. Jiyalal Maurya.
