Massive Gold Reserve Discovered in Pakistan’s Tarbela Dam: Valued at $636 Billion, Could It End Poverty

?

Karachi: Pakistan has reportedly uncovered a massive gold reserve buried in the soil of Tarbela Dam, one of the country’s key water and power projects. The estimated value of this gold is believed to be $636 billion, sparking widespread speculation about its potential to address Pakistan’s economic challenges. Pakistani authorities, including the military, have already been briefed about the discovery.

Gold Could Clear National Debt

The revelation was made public by Hanif Gohar, former Senior Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Chairman of Air Karachi, during a press briefing at the Karachi Press Club. Gohar claimed that the gold found in Tarbela could be sufficient to pay off Pakistan’s foreign debt. The discovery has already been brought to the attention of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor.

Gohar added that Australian and Canadian drilling companies have been contacted to assist in extracting the gold. He stated, “Once the Prime Minister gives the go-ahead, the process of extracting gold from Tarbela’s soil will begin immediately.”

Government and Military Briefed

According to Gohar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir have been formally briefed on the discovery, and both responded positively. Divers collected soil samples from inside the dam, which were analyzed in laboratories to estimate the gold content. Based on the results, the total value of gold in the dam’s soil is approximated at $636 billion.

Investment and Extraction Plans

Gohar emphasized that while the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) should ideally lead the extraction, his company is ready to invest, extract, and deliver the gold to the country if government approval is granted. Discussions are underway with dredging experts from the Netherlands and partners from Amsterdam and Canada to execute the project.

Air Karachi and Infrastructure Developments

In addition to the gold discovery, Gohar announced that Air Karachi will commence domestic operations from March 23, 2026, initially with a fleet of three to five Airbus aircraft. International flights are expected to follow after a year of successful domestic operations. He also revealed plans to build Hyderabad’s first five-star hotel on five acres, emphasizing that Pakistan cannot reduce its budget deficit without developing key infrastructure and industries.

The discovery of this vast gold reserve could have far-reaching implications for Pakistan’s economy, raising hopes that it might help reduce national debt, stimulate investment, and potentially alleviate poverty if effectively managed.
