Despite losing two subsequent elections, Mehta remained loyal to the party and helped strengthen it at the district level. His strategic acumen as district president in 2020 helped the Grand Alliance sweep all six Assembly seats in Aurangabad and secure both Aurangabad and Karakat Lok Sabha constituencies, effectively weakening the NDA’s position in the district.
However, despite his contributions, Mehta felt increasingly sidelined within the party. After recognizing his dissatisfaction, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary reached out to him and entrusted him with the responsibility of securing victory for Trivikram Narayan Singh in the upcoming elections. This led Mehta to officially join the BJP.
