Lawyer Falls in Love with Client While Handling Her Case, Helps Her Divorce Husband — Later Refuses to Marry, Now Arrested

In a shocking case from Bilaspur district, police have arrested a lawyer who allegedly exploited a woman under the pretext of marriage. The incident took place in the Sarkanda police station area, where the accused lawyer was representing the woman in her divorce case.

According to police reports, the victim had approached the lawyer for legal assistance in her dispute with her husband. During the course of the case, the lawyer developed a romantic relationship with her. He assured her that he would divorce his own wife and marry her. On his advice and legal support, the woman obtained a divorce from her husband.

However, after making repeated promises of marriage, the lawyer allegedly established physical relations with the woman multiple times. When she later insisted on marriage, he refused and even assaulted her. Feeling deceived, the woman lodged a complaint on November 2, following which the police arrested the accused.

The victim told police that her earlier marriage had been troubled due to constant domestic violence. Seeking justice, she had filed for divorce and came in contact with the lawyer handling her case. Over time, their professional relationship turned into a personal one. The lawyer claimed he had frequent disputes with his wife and would soon end that marriage to marry the victim.

However, after the woman’s divorce was finalized, the lawyer went back on his word. When she pressed him for marriage, he allegedly became violent and refused outright. Based on her detailed statement and supporting evidence, police have taken the lawyer into custody and initiated further investigation.

This case once again highlights how trust and emotional vulnerability can be misused under the guise of professional and personal support.
