Kanpur DSP Rishikant Shukla Under Vigilance Scanner: Lavish Son’s Wedding at ₹200 Crore Resort Raises Eyebrows

Kanpur: Former Kanpur DSP Rishikant Shukla, once known as a strict and reputed officer, is now under investigation for alleged disproportionate assets and financial irregularities. The spotlight has also turned to the lavish wedding of his son, held earlier this year at a resort valued at ₹200–250 crore, which saw the attendance of several senior political leaders and high-ranking officials.

Extravagant Wedding Sparks Controversy
In March, Shukla’s son tied the knot at the Eternity Resort in Kanpur, drawing attention across political and administrative circles. The wedding reportedly hosted BJP district presidents from 18 districts, MPs, MLAs, and senior officers, including ADG and DIG level officials. A viral video from the event showed several IPS officers dancing, triggering discussions in both political and police circles.

Disproportionate Assets Under Scrutiny
Vigilance and SIT reports have raised questions about Shukla’s wealth accumulation over his 28-year police career. The reports indicate assets worth nearly ₹100 crore, including 11 shops, multiple four-storey buildings, a guesthouse, real estate investments, and stakes in several companies, primarily in Kanpur’s posh Aryanagar area. Authorities are now examining how such massive assets align with his declared income.

Shukla’s Defense
Speaking to the media, Shukla denied all allegations, stating, “It was my son’s wedding, not my daughter’s. I brought the baraat, but the bride’s family organized everything. If they chose the ₹200 crore resort, how could I refuse? Not a single rupee of mine was spent.”

On the presence of politicians and senior officers, he added, “If criminals fear me and public representatives respect me, what is wrong in that? Maintaining good relations with leaders is not a crime. The current action against me is a conspiracy by some dissatisfied people jealous of my popularity.”

Shukla also claimed that many properties flagged in the SIT report are ancestral assets. “My grandfather was a police inspector, my father a bank manager. Most properties were inherited,” he said, offering to submit all supporting documents.

Vigilance Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have begun a detailed financial probe into the wedding expenses, including resort booking, decoration, catering, and accommodation. They aim to determine whether the costs were borne by the bride’s family or Shukla’s family.

‘Encounter Specialist’ in Spotlight
Former colleagues describe Shukla as an influential yet controversial officer, famously dubbed an ‘Encounter Specialist’ after several high-profile operations. His strong political connections, reflected in his son’s wedding guest list, have now come under scrutiny. The ongoing investigation is expected to shed light on both his personal wealth and the sources of lavish expenditure.
