Jharkhand Police Arrest Two Suspects in Palamu; Weapons Recovered, Woman Dies in Road Accident

In a significant law enforcement action in Palamu district, Jharkhand police have arrested two suspected individuals and seized weapons from their possession. The suspects were allegedly planning a major criminal act in the state. Authorities intercepted them on Monday along Pandu-Chhatarpur Road. SDPO Alok Kumar Tuti stated, “We received a confidential tip-off that the suspects were preparing to carry out a major incident. Based on this information, we laid a trap and apprehended them.” Two pistols were recovered, and a case under the Arms Act has been registered at Pandu police station. Investigations are ongoing.

Compensation Announced for Naxal Violence Victims

In a long-awaited move, the Jharkhand Government has approved financial assistance for families of victims of Naxal violence, nearly a decade after the incidents occurred. Families of five individuals killed in Naxal attacks across Chaibasa, Gumla, Latehar, and Deoghar districts will each receive ₹1 lakh as relief.

The beneficiaries include:

  • Vishnu Prasad (Deoghar) – killed on 8 November 2008; wife Humeti Devya to receive ₹1 lakh.
  • Budhnath Hassa Purti (Chaibasa) – killed on 28 June 2012; wife Ramdi Soy to receive ₹1 lakh.
  • Ritu Badhai (Gumla) – killed on 12 August 2013; wife Balo Soy to receive ₹1 lakh.
  • Salman Ansari (Latehar) – killed on 18 August 2013; wife Shabba Praveen to receive ₹1 lakh.
  • Kelment Barjo (Chaibasa) – killed on 30 August 2016; wife Sunita to receive ₹1 lakh.

This initiative provides much-needed relief to families who have been waiting for over ten years for compensation.

Tragic Road Accident in Palamu

Adding to the district’s woes, a road accident in Patan area of Palamu claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman, Asha Kumari. She died when her motorcycle collided with a cargo truck along the Medininagar-Patan route. Her husband and seven-year-old daughter sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at Medinirai Medical College & Hospital (MMCH). Asha Kumari’s body has been sent for post-mortem, according to police reports.

This series of events underscores ongoing law enforcement challenges in Jharkhand, ranging from Naxal-related threats to road safety hazards, while the government continues to extend support to affected families.
