Farmers from the fertile lands of Nimar, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appreciation of their efforts, have collectively resolved to adopt chemical-free and eco-friendly farming practices. These farmers are part of a NABARD-supported Farmer Producer Organization (FPO), comprising 750 shareholders and nearly 3,000 active farmers, now united in their mission to eliminate chemical fertilizers and promote rainwater conservation for sustainable agriculture.
The turning point came on October 11, when the NimadFresh FPO from Khargone met Prime Minister Modi during a special interaction at Pusa Krishi Vigyan Complex, New Delhi. The Prime Minister praised their initiatives and shared insights on modern, sustainable farming methods.
Following this meeting, FPO Director Shri Balkrishna Patidar encouraged members to take a firm pledge toward natural farming. “After meeting the Hon’ble Prime Minister, we have redefined our direction — our focus is not only on the health of citizens but also on the health of our soil,” said Patidar.
NimadFresh: Advancing Toward Spice Processing and Global Markets
The NimadFresh FPO first made international headlines in 2022–23 by exporting green chilies to Europe. Motivated by this success, the organization took steps toward value addition, processing chili, coriander, and turmeric products, achieving a turnover of ₹73 lakh in 2023–24.
In 2024–25, the FPO launched a kabuli chana grading and cleaning unit, helping farmers free themselves from middlemen by establishing direct marketing and trading channels. With the support of NABARD and the State Bank of India (SBI), the FPO reached an impressive turnover of ₹12 crore.
To ensure the success of their new roadmap, the FPO has also held consultations with the Khargone Collector and officials from the Agriculture Department for expert guidance and technical support.
This shift marks a new era for Nimar’s agricultural landscape — one that balances economic growth with environmental sustainability, reinforcing India’s journey toward a healthier, toxin-free, and self-reliant farming ecosystem.
