Even After Kangana’s Apology, She Refused to Forgive — Who Is Punjab’s 78-Year-Old Farmer Woman Mohinder Kaur

?

Bathinda (Punjab): Despite Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut offering an apology in court, 78-year-old farmer Mohinder Kaur has refused to forgive her. The defamation case dates back to the 2020–21 farmers’ protest, when Kangana’s controversial social media post sparked nationwide outrage.

During the farmers’ protest, Kangana shared a photo of elderly women protesters, claiming they were “hired for ₹100” to join the movement. She also falsely identified one of them as Bilkis Bano — the ‘Dadi’ from Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh protest featured in TIME magazine. However, the woman in the photograph was later identified as Mohinder Kaur, a respected farmer from Punjab’s Bathinda district.

Deeply hurt by the statement, Mohinder Kaur filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in a local court — a legal battle she has pursued with determination for nearly four years.

Who Is Mohinder Kaur?

Mohinder Kaur hails from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda, Punjab. She owns about 13 acres of farmland and lives in a modest ancestral home. Her husband, Labh Singh (80), is bedridden due to illness, while her son, Gurdas, has been confined to bed for the past three months because of a severe infection. Her daughter-in-law passed away a year and a half ago from the same infection.

“I Am Fighting for My Honour”

After four years of hearings, Kangana Ranaut finally expressed regret in court, admitting it was a misunderstanding and tendering an apology. The court subsequently granted her bail and set the next hearing for November 24.

However, Mohinder Kaur has made it clear that forgiveness is not an option. “I am fighting for my honour,” she said firmly. “This is not just about me — it is about the dignity of every woman and farmer who stood for the truth. I will not step back now.”

Kaur’s unyielding stance has earned her admiration across Punjab and beyond — symbolizing resilience, self-respect, and the power of ordinary citizens to hold even the powerful accountable.
