Congress Workers Protest with Empty Liquor Bottles Around Their Necks During Public Hearing in Khandwa — Officials Left Stunned

Khandwa News: An unusual scene unfolded during the Collector’s public hearing in Khandwa district when Congress workers arrived wearing garlands made of empty liquor bottles. The protest, led by Congress leaders Mullu Rathore and Archana Tiwari, was aimed at exposing the rampant illegal liquor trade in the region. The sight left officials and onlookers astonished, momentarily transforming the atmosphere of the public hearing.

Chanting slogans such as “Stop Illegal Liquor, Wake Up Administration!” the Congress workers entered the hall wearing the symbolic bottle garlands. They alleged that illegal liquor sales are flourishing across Khandwa city and nearby rural areas. They also claimed that unauthorized drinking zones have been set up outside liquor shops, where even minors and youths openly consume alcohol.

Women and Children Worst Affected
Women Congress leader Archana Tiwari voiced deep concern over the growing liquor menace, saying, “Liquor has infiltrated every colony and ward of the city. Women are suffering the most as men and children are falling prey to addiction. Domestic disputes and financial distress are on the rise, but the administration remains indifferent.”
She added that Congress has submitted several memorandums earlier, yet no decisive action has been taken by the Excise Department. “If the situation continues, we will take to the streets,” she warned.

Administration Promises Swift Action
ADM Kashiram Badole, present during the protest, immediately summoned excise officers and instructed them to submit an inquiry report within 24 to 48 hours. He assured the protesters that strict action will be taken wherever illegal liquor trade is found. Excise officials also confirmed that investigations are underway, stating, “If alcohol is being sold or served without permission anywhere, we will ensure proper enforcement.”

Unique Protest Draws Public Attention
The creative form of protest drew significant attention. Each empty bottle carried slogans like “Stop Illegal Liquor,” “Save Our Children,” and “Wake Up Excise Department.” As the Congress workers entered the hearing room, murmurs spread among the attendees, highlighting the visual impact of their demonstration.

Congress Warns of a Mass Movement
Leader Mullu Rathore said, “Illegal liquor is destroying the social fabric of Khandwa. If authorities do not act promptly, Congress will launch a mass agitation.” He alleged that illegal drinking dens and unauthorized gatherings near liquor outlets are leading to law-and-order issues, yet the responsible departments remain silent.

Questions Raised Over Administrative Apathy
Congress leaders accused the Excise Department of negligence, claiming that illegal liquor sales are thriving under its watch. Despite repeated complaints, no major raids have been conducted. “It appears this illegal business is being run under official protection,” they alleged.
