Cold Wave Strikes Uttarakhand: Snowfall and Chilly Mornings & Evenings to Grip Several Districts

**
Uttarakhand is set to experience a sharp drop in temperatures as a cold wave sweeps through the state. According to the Meteorological Centre, light rainfall is expected today in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh, while areas above 4,000 meters in the hilly regions are likely to witness snowfall.

Snowfall and Chilly Weather in Higher Altitudes

On Tuesday evening, snowfall was recorded on the higher peaks near Badrinath Dham, leading to a notable dip in temperature. The lower regions also experienced cloudy skies, causing a drop in day temperatures and increasing the overall chill.

To help pilgrims at Badrinath Dham combat the biting cold, bonfires were lit at various spots. The icy winds made the warmth of the fires essential for pilgrims to avoid discomfort.

Weather Forecast

The Meteorological Centre’s forecast indicates:

  • Light rainfall and snowfall are expected in selected parts of the mountainous districts.
  • Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh may witness intermittent rainfall.
  • Hilly regions above 4,000 meters are likely to experience snowfall, making the cold wave more severe.

Meteorologists have cautioned that the combination of rainfall and snowfall may intensify the cold wave, making mornings and evenings particularly harsh for residents and travelers in the region.

Mild Relief During Daytime, Cold Evenings Persist

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively normal, providing some respite. However, early mornings and evenings will continue to be extremely cold due to the prevailing cold wave.

The weather is likely to remain dry across the state from 6th to 8th November, though fog in the plains may cause minor drops in temperature. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm, especially during early and late hours.
