Chhattisgarh Begins Special Intensive Revision (SIR): 5–6% Voters to Show Documents; BLOs to Visit Each House Thrice

Raipur: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voter list has officially begun across Chhattisgarh from Tuesday. Under this initiative, the Election Commission will update the electoral rolls, adding new eligible voters and verifying existing records to ensure accuracy ahead of upcoming elections.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Yashwant Kumar informed that during the SIR process, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit every household three times to verify voter details. Where necessary, voters will be asked to produce identity and address documents to confirm their eligibility.

Only 5–6% Voters Need to Show Documents

CEO Yashwant Kumar stated that only 5–6% of voters will be required to submit documents during verification. “Nearly 90–94% of voter data is already available with the Election Commission,” he said. Voters whose names were included in the 2003 SIR list will not need to provide documents again. To ensure smooth implementation and resolve queries, a dedicated voter helpline has been launched.

Timeline of the Revision Process

The voter verification drive will run from November 4 to December 4, 2025. The draft voter list will be published on December 9, 2025, after which voters can file corrections or objections regarding their name or address until January 8, 2026. The final electoral roll will be released on February 7, 2026.

71% Voter Records Already Verified

According to the CEO, around 71% of voter data has already been matched with existing polling station records. Since 2003, a large number of voters — especially married women — have changed their residence, and their records are now being reconciled with new polling locations.

BLOs Empowered to Resolve Voter Issues

The Election Commission has introduced a new “Call Request” feature, enabling BLOs to directly address voters’ queries and grievances. CEO Kumar appealed to citizens and political parties alike to extend full cooperation to the Election Commission teams. “Our goal is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the voter list,” he emphasized.

With the SIR drive now underway, the Election Commission aims to make the 2026 voter list the most accurate and inclusive in Chhattisgarh’s history.
