In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across Bihar, three members of a prominent political family were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Purnea district on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Naveen Kushwaha (52), his wife Kanchan Mala Singh (48), and their daughter Tanu Priya (23).
According to police sources, the bodies were discovered at their residence in the European Colony near Indira Gandhi Stadium, under the jurisdiction of K. Hat police station. The tragic discovery has triggered widespread speculation and calls for a high-level investigation.
Political Links and Past Background
The deceased, Naveen Kushwaha, was not new to politics. He had contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and later ran as a Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) candidate from the Dhamdaha Assembly seat in 2010 — the party once led by Upendra Kushwaha. His younger brother, Niranjan Kushwaha, is currently a leader in the Janata Dal (United).
Police Rush to Scene, Postmortem Ordered
As soon as the news spread, SDPO Jyoti Shankar, K. Hat Police Station in-charge Uday Kumar, Assistant Khajanchi Station Officer Purushottam Kumar, and Phanishwarnath Renu TOP in-charge Rajnandani arrived at the scene with a heavy police force.
All three victims were rushed to Galaxy Hospital in Line Bazaar, where doctors declared them brought dead. The bodies have since been sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Political Leaders Arrive at Hospital
The incident drew immediate attention from senior politicians. MP Pappu Yadav, Minister Leshi Singh, MLA Vijay Khemka, former minister Bima Bharti, and several local leaders reached the hospital to take stock of the situation.
Speaking to reporters, Pappu Yadav described the case as “highly suspicious”, saying:
“There are no signs of gunshot wounds, poisoning, or suicide. The deaths appear unnatural. A high-level investigation is essential to uncover the truth.”
Family’s Version: “They Fell One After Another”
However, offering a different version, Niranjan Kushwaha, brother of the deceased, claimed that the deaths were accidental. According to him, his niece Tanu Priya slipped and fell from the stairs. In a desperate attempt to save her, Naveen also fell, followed by Kanchan Mala, who fainted and collapsed.
“All three were immediately taken to the hospital, but none survived,” said Niranjan.
Police: “Cause of Death Awaited”
The Purnea Police have confirmed that the case is being probed from all possible angles — accidental, medical, and criminal. A police spokesperson stated that the postmortem report will provide critical clarity on the cause of death.
Until then, mystery and speculation continue to surround this triple-death case, which has gripped Bihar’s political circles and left the public searching for answers.
