Satna, Madhya Pradesh – It was a moment filled with nostalgia and emotion when Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi returned to his childhood school, Saraswati Shishu Mandir, in Satna—55 years after he last studied there.
General Dwivedi’s recent visit was inspired by an unexpected rediscovery — his Class 4 marksheet from the 1971–72 academic session. After the marksheet surfaced online, he shared it on social media, expressing his heartfelt desire to revisit the school where his educational journey began.
On November 1st, General Dwivedi arrived in Satna and visited Saraswati Shishu Mandir accompanied by school officials and local dignitaries. As he stepped onto the stage, the Army Chief appeared visibly emotional, recalling his early memories as a young student.
According to the school committee’s president, Manikant Maheshwari, General Dwivedi had studied there along with his sister during the 1971–72 session. Upon obtaining a copy of his old marksheet, he reached out through a Brigadier to verify the school’s details. The marksheet was later cross-checked with school records and found to be authentic.
Speaking at the event, Maheshwari noted, “General Dwivedi’s connection with this school is deeply personal. Even after decades of service and global recognition, he has not forgotten his roots.”
For General Dwivedi, the visit symbolized more than just a nostalgic return—it was a heartfelt reunion with his beginnings, a tribute to his teachers, and a reminder of the values that shaped his illustrious journey from a small-town classroom to leading the Indian Army.
