Women Have Only 5 Key Days Each Month to Conceive, Chances Drop Sharply After 24 Hours: Doctor Explains

New Delhi: Struggling to conceive? It may not be about how much you try, but when. According to gynecologist Dr. Manisha Meena Gupta, a woman has only five days each month when her chances of pregnancy are highest, as these are the days when her egg is most easily fertilizable. After 24 hours, the probability drops significantly.

The Fertile Window

Pregnancy is a complex process, and proper planning is crucial even before conception. Most couples face difficulties because they are unaware of the optimal time to try. Dr. Gupta explains that the fertile window lasts about five days each month, with conception chances increasing in the days leading up to ovulation.

Chances by Day

Based on ovulation timing, the likelihood of conception varies:

  • 3 days before ovulation: 27%
  • 2 days before ovulation: 33%
  • 1 day before ovulation: 41%
  • Day of ovulation: 20%
  • 1 day after ovulation: 8%

The chances drop quickly after the egg is released, as it remains viable for only 12 to 24 hours.

Understanding Ovulation

Ovulation is the process when an egg is released from the ovary. In a typical 28-day cycle, ovulation usually occurs around day 14. Planning intercourse around this period can significantly increase the likelihood of conception.
