Struggling with Acne and Pimples? Nutritionist Reveals 3 Common Mistakes You Should Stop Immediately

Acne and pimples are a common skin concern that affect people of all ages. But do you know what causes these breakouts? Nutritionist Shweta Shah sheds light on the reasons behind acne and shares some common habits that may be worsening your skin condition.

While some people experience occasional pimples, others suffer from severe breakouts, with numerous bumps and pustules appearing on their face. Regardless of the severity, it’s important to understand the root causes of acne, because simply wishing it away won’t work. Often, our daily habits have a direct impact on skin health. In a recent Instagram video, nutritionist Shweta Shah highlighted three everyday mistakes people make that can trigger or worsen acne.

Mistake 1: Washing the Face Too Frequently
Many people wash their face 3–4 times a day, believing it will keep their skin clean and prevent pimples. However, over-washing strips the skin of its natural oils. In response, the skin produces even more oil, which can lead to increased breakouts.

Mistake 2: Touching the Face Repeatedly
Most of us do this unintentionally—after using a laptop, scrolling on the phone, or touching various objects, we often touch our face. This transfers dirt and bacteria to the skin, clogging pores and increasing the risk of pimples and infections.

Mistake 3: Using the Wrong Oils
A common mistake, especially in winter, is applying coconut oil to the face. Coconut oil is highly comedogenic and can aggravate acne. Instead, it is recommended to use oils suitable for your skin type.

Recommended Oils for Acne-Prone Skin

  • Jojoba oil
  • Rosehip oil
  • Kumkumadi oil

Using these oils appropriately can help maintain skin hydration without worsening acne.
