Simple Trick to Clean Burnt Pressure Cooker After Boiling Potatoes, Says Shashank Alsi

Burning food in a pressure cooker, especially while boiling potatoes, is a common kitchen mishap. Often, the water level in the cooker drops too low, causing the food to stick and the cooker to get charred. Cleaning it can take hours, leaving stubborn stains. However, content creator Shashank Alsi has shared an easy, no-fuss solution to restore your burnt cooker to its shiny, like-new state.

According to Alsi, the problem usually occurs when people are distracted while cooking, or when insufficient water is used. The burnt residue can be difficult to remove, but a simple method using baking soda can make cleaning effortless.

Step 1: Fill the burnt cooker with water
Start by adding enough water to fully submerge the burnt areas. If only the bottom is burnt, fill halfway; if the sides are also charred, fill it to the top.

Step 2: Add baking soda
Mix 2–3 tablespoons of baking soda into the water. Baking soda’s alkaline properties help loosen the carbon bonds of the burnt food. You may also add a little dish soap to boost the cleaning power.

Step 3: Boil on high heat
Place the cooker on the stove and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. As the water heats up, the baking soda reacts with the burnt layers, softening them.

Step 4: Simmer on low heat
Once boiling, reduce the flame and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes. During this stage, the combination of heat, water, and baking soda loosens the stubborn stains from the surface.

Step 5: Let it cool
Turn off the stove and allow the cooker to cool until the water is lukewarm. The residual heat continues to soften any remaining burnt residue, which often floats off on its own.

Step 6: Final rinse and polish
Pour out the water. Most of the burnt residue (around 90%) will have come off. For any remaining spots, gently scrub with a sponge and liquid dish soap. Your pressure cooker will be restored to a clean, shiny condition with minimal effort.

This easy method saves hours of scrubbing and keeps kitchenware looking brand new, making it a must-try for every home cook.
