Paritosh Tripathi: “I write intense love, but I can’t love as well as I write”

Television’s beloved “TRP maverick” Paritosh Tripathi is not just a comedian—he is a serious poet and writer. With three books already published and his debut novel on the way, Paritosh continues to win hearts. His solo play, STD PCO Wala Pyaar, has been receiving nationwide acclaim. In the “I Wrote Love” series, we explore Paritosh Tripathi’s literary journey and his experiences with love.

A Multifaceted Entertainer

Most people know Paritosh Tripathi as a TV anchor, comedian, and actor. He gained widespread recognition for his comedy and hosting on The Kapil Sharma Show and various dance reality shows. Audiences have enjoyed his performances in popular films such as Selfie, Janhit Mein Jaari, Ludo, and Vanvas.

After publishing Man Patang Dil Dor, Chai-si Mohabbat, and Ghanaghor Ishq, Paritosh Tripathi’s popularity soared further. His solo play has brought him even closer to his audience. “Love Needs the Right Temperature”

“My first book was Man Patang Dil Dor, followed by Chai-si Mohabbat, and then Ghanaghor Ishq. For me, tea and love are similar—if they get cold, the flavor is lost; if too hot, they burn. Both need the right balance of sweetness and warmth,” he explains.

“I have many love stories, but most are incomplete. That’s why it’s said—love may be unfinished, but the poetry becomes complete. I feel I write love better than I live it. I love words more than myself, so the scale always tips in favor of language. In my family, my father, elder brother, and sister are all writers, and many surpass me. But love—intense love—is something only I have written and experienced.”

Writing Through Failures

Paritosh was an introvert as a child. “Even if someone asked my name, my face would turn red,” he recalls. Despite having parents and siblings as teachers and professors, he once failed a year in school. “That failure led me to write poetry,” he says. Over the years, he has faced multiple setbacks in love, often channeling his feelings into poems.

A memorable incident from childhood: “My bicycle was stolen, and I was scolded at home. I didn’t know why it was my fault. That inspired my first poem—about a bicycle. From seventh grade onwards, my feelings started pouring onto paper.”

Celebrating Love

“I am a full-time lover of words and acting,” Paritosh says. “Love should be celebrated at all times. Just as comedy in acting is challenging, infusing romantic sentiment into poetry is difficult—but both bring joy. People often say poetry books don’t sell, yet all three of mine became bestsellers.”

Readers resonate with his words. “After reading Chai-si Mohabbat, people say I’ve written what’s in their hearts. My poem Tere Na Hone Par has touched many, and lines like ‘Ants have invaded the salt container, I told you not to touch anything’ went viral,” he adds with a smile.

From Friendship to Love

During his first year of college in Delhi, Paritosh became friends with Meenakshi Chand, who is now his wife and mother of their daughter. “Our friendship gradually turned into love. During those college days, I wrote and recited many poems.”

His involvement in Delhi’s theater group gave him exposure to writing scripts, dialogues, and songs, along with acting. His poetry spans both romantic themes and social issues, written in a language accessible to readers.

A Decade of Patience

After moving to Mumbai in 2009, the next ten years were a struggle. “From age 25 to 35, I was constantly working but didn’t get the right break. My sisters supported me with scholarship money on birthdays and festivals. Meenakshi waited ten years for me. Those years tested our relationship, but love held us together.”

Although he wrote numerous poems, publishing books never occurred to him until reality show Super Dancer recognized his talent. Encouraged by Geeta Di, he began writing, resulting in three bestselling books. Soon, his fourth work—his debut novel Ishq Barahvin Pass—will release. His solo play, STD PCO Wala Pyaar, is a one-and-a-half-hour excerpt from this upcoming novel.
