“Parenting Challenges for Millennials: Family Support, Rising Costs, and Social Media Make It Tougher”

Parenting has never been easy, but for millennials, it has become increasingly challenging. Parenting coach Pushpa Sharma highlights several reasons why raising children today is more complex and stressful compared to previous generations.

Limited Family Support
Sharma points out that modern parents often lack a strong support system. Unlike earlier generations, where grandparents, uncles, aunts, and extended family played an active role, most millennial families are nuclear. This means parents shoulder almost all responsibilities themselves, which can affect their mental and physical well-being, leading to emotional and physical burnout.

Economic Pressures
Rising costs are another major factor. Stable jobs, affordable housing, and relatively low educational expenses were more common in the past. Today, parents face high housing costs, job insecurity, and rising education expenses. These financial pressures contribute to mental stress, making parenting emotionally demanding.

Information Overload and Social Media Influence
Sharma also notes that constant exposure to expert advice, parenting reels, and social media creates doubt and overthinking among parents. Millennial parents often second-guess their decisions, feel guilt over small choices, and struggle to keep up with ever-changing expectations.

Children’s Overexposure to the Digital World
Children today face a faster, more complex world. With social media, online bullying, constant comparisons, early maturity, and various addictions, parents must play multiple roles—as protectors, mentors, and counselors—on top of being caregivers.

Balancing Discipline and Freedom
Maintaining a balance between discipline and emotional safety is another challenge. Modern parents must establish boundaries while ensuring respect and emotional well-being, making every parenting decision more complicated.

Pushpa Sharma concludes that these combined pressures make parenting far more stressful for millennials than it was for previous generations.
