During cold weather, solidified coconut oil becomes a common household challenge. Scooping out the hardened oil from the bottle can be difficult, and using unsafe methods like direct heat or boiling water can damage the bottle or oil. YouTuber Amarjeet Kaur has shared simple and safe methods to melt coconut oil in just five minutes.
1. Safe ‘Glass Hot Bath’ Method
Amarjeet’s most recommended method is both safe and effective. Heat water in a vessel until it is comfortably warm, not boiling. Pour the water into a sturdy glass or mug, then place the coconut oil bottle with its cap on directly into the warm water. Within 3–5 minutes, the oil will melt evenly. The glass prevents slipping and ensures uniform heat distribution.
2. Using Hand Warmth
For slightly solidified oil or small amounts needed quickly, the hand method works well. Hold the coconut oil bottle between both palms and rub gently to generate heat. Rotate the bottle occasionally to distribute warmth. This method is perfect when traveling or in need of a small quantity of melted oil.
3. Warm Water Bowl for Large Bottles or Tins
Similar to the glass hot bath, this method is ideal for larger bottles or tins. Fill a wide bowl with moderately warm water and place the unopened bottle or tin directly into it. The heat from the water and steam gradually melts the oil inside.
4. Using a Hair Dryer
Set a hair dryer to medium or low heat and hold it at least six inches away from the bottle. Direct the warm airflow on the frozen parts of the oil, keeping the dryer moving to avoid overheating one spot. Avoid high heat or close contact, as it can damage the plastic bottle.
5. Wrap in a Warm Cloth or Towel
For a slower but hassle-free method, soak a thin towel in warm water, wring it out, and wrap it tightly around the bottle. You can cover it with a dry towel to retain heat. The gentle warmth gradually melts the coconut oil. Leaving it overnight away from the fridge ensures the oil is ready to use by morning.
These simple methods provide safe, effective ways to melt coconut oil during winter without wasting time or oil.
