Masoor Dal: The Secret Ingredient to Boost Plant Growth, Reveals Expert Gardener

For healthy, fast-growing plants that bloom abundantly, essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are crucial. Surprisingly, masoor dal (red lentils) is a natural source of these nutrients, making it an excellent organic fertilizer. Gardening expert Preeti Sharma has shared the correct way to use masoor dal to help plants thrive.

A Natural Alternative to Chemical Fertilizers
Gardeners often struggle with slow growth and fewer flowers. While NPK fertilizers are effective, excessive use can harm soil fertility. Masoor dal offers a safe and natural alternative, rich not only in primary nutrients but also in boron, which strengthens plant cells. Sharma outlined two effective ways to use masoor dal for indoor and outdoor plants.

Method 1: Masoor Dal Liquid Fertilizer

  • Take half a liter of water and add two tablespoons of masoor dal. Soak it to release nutrients into the water, which acts like an energy drink for plants.
  • Soaking time varies by season: overnight in winter, 4 hours in summer. Strain the water afterward.
  • Dilute the strained water with five times its volume of plain water before applying to plants. For example, one glass of dal water should be mixed with five glasses of plain water. This ensures balanced nutrient absorption without disturbing the soil.
  • The soaked dal can be reused. Add fresh water and leave for 2 days, then strain and use again. This is a perfect example of zero-waste gardening.

Method 2: Masoor Dal Powder Fertilizer

  • Grind dry masoor dal into a fine powder.
  • Loosen the soil in the pot, sprinkle one teaspoon of the powder evenly, and press it lightly into the soil.
  • Water the soil to activate the nutrients.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use masoor dal fertilizer, liquid or powder, once a month.
  • Apply enough liquid to moisten only the top layer of soil.
  • Regular use promotes new leaf growth and larger flowers, enhancing both the health and beauty of your plants.

With these simple methods, masoor dal proves to be a cost-effective, nutrient-rich, and eco-friendly solution for gardeners seeking vibrant, fast-growing plants.
