Winter can intensify knee and joint pain, making even daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, or sitting and standing uncomfortable. While painkillers provide temporary relief, they do not address the root cause. Nutritionist Kiran Kukreja recommends a natural, Ayurvedic remedy that can help ease joint pain safely—without chemicals or side effects.
Why Knee Pain Increases in Winter
In colder months, muscles and joints tend to stiffen, reducing flexibility and blood flow. This can worsen inflammation and pain, especially in the knees. The body’s natural healing process slows down in winter, making discomfort more noticeable.
The Ayurvedic Clove Oil Solution
Kukreja shares a 100-year-old traditional remedy that uses simple, natural ingredients to make an effective massage oil. Regular use of this oil can provide immediate relief from joint stiffness, knee pain, and general body aches. The ingredients are commonly available at home and create a powerful therapeutic blend.
Ingredients Needed
- 1 cup mustard oil
- 1 tbsp carom seeds (ajwain)
- 1 tbsp cloves
- 6–7 garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp fenugreek seeds (methi)
- A few pieces of raw turmeric
- 1 tbsp camphor powder
Preparation Method
- Heat mustard oil in a pan for 2 minutes.
- Add each ingredient one by one.
- Simmer on low heat for 20–25 minutes.
- Allow the oil to cool and strain it.
The oil can be stored for 2–3 months and used whenever joint pain occurs.
Benefits
According to Kukreja, this oil balances the aggravated ‘Vata’ in the body, which naturally increases in cold weather. Massaging with this oil keeps the joints warm, relaxes stiff muscles, and reduces inflammation. Regular application can relieve knee pain, improve flexibility, and support overall joint health during harsh winters.
