Sejal Chauhan, 22, lost her father when she was just six years old. Despite the early loss, she started contributing to her family’s needs from a young age. Today, her passion for dance has not only shaped her career but also given her a strong sense of identity.
A Mother’s Inspiration
After her father’s death, the responsibility of raising Sejal and her older brother fell on her mother’s shoulders. Working multiple jobs, including her primary job, sewing, and therapy work, her mother ensured that the children lacked nothing and received a good education. Sejal recalls learning the value of hard work not through lectures, but by observing her mother’s dedication.
Helping Her Mother Through Dance
From an early age, Sejal trained in Bharatanatyam and Bollywood dance alongside her studies. She began teaching dance to other children, using the earnings to support her education and help her mother. After graduation, she is now pursuing a degree in Kathak dance while simultaneously teaching and performing professionally.
Dance as Her Identity
Through years of rigorous practice, dance has become Sejal’s defining passion. She teaches students, performs on stage, and has even worked as a background dancer with several celebrities and in music albums. Seeing her students perform brings her immense satisfaction, as she believes that art grows and shines when shared.
Perspectives of the New Generation
Sejal reflects on today’s youth, often labeled as careless. She asserts that while the younger generation may act differently, they are confident in their choices, respect elders, but do not accept what they believe to be wrong.
A Tribute to Her Mother
Sejal credits her mother for instilling self-respect, independence, and confidence. Despite limited educational opportunities and societal constraints, her mother taught her to live with dignity, make her own decisions, and raise her voice for her rights.
From tragedy to triumph, Sejal Chauhan’s journey underscores the power of resilience, parental guidance, and the transformative role of art in shaping a young woman’s life.
