IVF, or in vitro fertilization, is a topic of growing interest among couples planning a family. One of the most common questions is: how much does this treatment actually cost? The cost can vary significantly depending on the city, clinic, and other factors. Here’s a detailed look at IVF expenses in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities across India.
Average Cost of IVF in India
Dr. Shikha Tandon, in an Instagram video, revealed that the average cost of a single IVF cycle in India currently ranges between ₹1.2 lakh and ₹2.8 lakh. The exact cost depends on multiple factors, including the city, clinic experience, and medications used.
IVF Costs in Tier-1 Cities
For Tier-1 cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, the cost of a single IVF cycle typically starts at ₹1.2–1.5 lakh and can go up to ₹3.5 lakh.
IVF Costs in Tier-2 Cities
In Tier-2 cities, the cost is relatively lower, usually ranging between ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh per cycle.
Factors That Influence IVF Costs
According to Dr. Tandon, several factors contribute to the total cost of IVF:
- Experience and quality of the laboratory
- Expertise of the embryologist and support staff
- Medications and injections used, including their brand
Couples should carefully consider these factors when choosing a clinic to ensure the best chance of success.
What Happens If IVF Fails?
In a separate podcast, Dr. Mahima explained that IVF is a highly personalized treatment. Every patient’s body responds differently due to variations in hormonal levels and egg production. In some cases, women may produce more eggs, while in others, fewer eggs are retrieved.
This means that each IVF cycle may require adjustments in medication and treatment protocols. If an IVF cycle fails, couples may need to undergo additional cycles, which will incur additional costs.
