Hair Falling While Styling? Pakistani Doctor Shares Protective Hairstyles to Prevent Female Baldness

Hair care remains a major concern for many women, but despite meticulous attention, some still notice receding hairlines or thinning at the front. Dermatologist Dr. Zakiya Noor from Pakistan explains why this happens and offers expert tips to protect hair from damage and hair loss.

The Cause: Traction Alopecia

In a recent Instagram video, Dr. Noor highlighted that many women suffer from traction alopecia, a condition where hair loss starts at the hairline and temples due to excessive pulling from tight hairstyles. Even carefully done braids or ponytails can lead to thinning over time if not done correctly.

Protective Hairstyles to Prevent Hair Loss

1. Loose Bun

Start by combing your hair gently with a wide-tooth comb. Twist your hair into a loose bun using a silky scrunchie. Make sure the bun is not tight; you can rotate clockwise or anticlockwise. This reduces hair tension and prevents damage.

2. Two Braids

Creating two loose braids can prevent hair from flying forward and reduce the risk of bald patches at the front. The braids should remain loose to avoid pulling on the hair.

3. Single Simple Braid

A normal single braid, either centered or slightly to the side, is also effective. Keeping the braid thin and loose ensures minimal tension on the hairline.

4. Low Ponytail

A low, loose ponytail is one of the easiest protective hairstyles. Avoid high or tight ponytails, which strain the hair roots. You can maintain this style for 6–7 hours, and if worn longer, switch to a loose bun.

Additional Tips

  • Apply Hair Serum: Use serum only along the hair length, not on the scalp, to prevent excess oil and dirt accumulation.
  • Avoid hairstyles that pull hair excessively or keep it tightly bound for long periods.

Dr. Noor emphasizes that with simple care and proper styling, women can maintain healthy hair and significantly reduce the risk of baldness.
