Grow Bigger, Brighter Hibiscus Blooms: Use This Free Jaggery-Based Fertilizer From ‘Kiran Ki Bagiya’

Hibiscus plants look their best when they are covered with large, vibrant red flowers. However, during winter, the blooming often reduces significantly, and the plant requires extra care and nourishment. Gardening expert Kiran of ‘Kiran Ki Bagiya’ has shared some simple and highly effective tips to keep hibiscus plants healthy and full of blossoms—along with a free, homemade fertilizer that can be prepared easily using ingredients found in every kitchen.

Why Hibiscus Needs Extra Care

Hibiscus is not only a significant plant in Hindu rituals but also a favorite among garden lovers because of its striking flowers. If you want your hibiscus plant to produce clusters of blooms with bigger sizes, the right care, sunlight, and nutrition are essential. According to Kiran, winter months demand extra attention to ensure the plant remains healthy.

The Perfect Sunlight and Pot Size

For best results, place the hibiscus plant where it receives 6–7 hours of direct sunlight daily. Insufficient sunlight leads to more leaves but fewer and smaller flowers.
If the plant is in a small pot, shift it to a larger one. When roots have enough space to spread, the plant produces bigger and more frequent blooms.

Cleaning and Pruning the Plant

A healthy hibiscus requires a clean, well-maintained environment. Remove dried flowers, yellow leaves, and weeds from the pot. Dry flowers drain the plant’s energy into seed formation—instead of new buds. Regular pruning helps the plant channel its energy into fresh growth and blooming.

Protecting the Plant From Pests

Hibiscus plants are prone to attacks by mealybugs and aphids, which damage buds and flowers. The safest and most effective natural remedy is neem oil spray.
Mix neem oil with water and a few drops of liquid soap, shake well, and spray on affected areas to prevent pest infestation.

Jaggery–Fenugreek–Tea Powder Liquid Fertilizer (Free & Powerful)

One of Kiran’s most impressive tips is a free homemade liquid fertilizer that boosts hibiscus flowering dramatically.

How to prepare it:

  1. Take an airtight container filled with water.
  2. Add 2–3 teaspoons of fenugreek seeds.
  3. Add a 1-inch piece of jaggery.
  4. Close the container and leave it for 7 days.

Jaggery activates beneficial microorganisms, which break down nutrients from the fenugreek and ferment the mixture.

How to use it:

  • Mix 100 ml of the fermented liquid in 1 liter of plain water.
  • Add ½ teaspoon of tea leaves or coffee powder.
  • Pour 250 ml of this mixture into an 8-inch pot.
You can use this homemade fertilizer once or twice a month.

Correct Timing for Watering and Fertilizing

Proper watering plays a crucial role in hibiscus care.

  • Ensure the soil has good drainage—this allows the fertilizer to absorb quickly.
  • Always apply fertilizer only when the soil is dry.
  • Check moisture by touching the top layer of the soil; applying fertilizer or water to already-wet soil may cause root rot.
