Gen Z Embraces Bhajan Clubbing: Lovish-Prakriti Aim to Connect Youth with Devotion

This New Year, thousands of Gen Z members chose to celebrate not in nightclubs, but with their families at Bhajan Clubbing events—a surprising and heartening shift.

Understanding Gen Z’s moods is never easy. Outwardly carefree, they often have a deep side, as reflected in their choice to embrace devotional music over typical nightclub celebrations. Across India, Bhajan Clubbing is gaining popularity, with young people participating enthusiastically alongside their families.

To learn more about this growing trend, we spoke with devotional singers Lovish Sheetal and Prakriti Sharma Arora, the pioneers behind Bhajan Clubbing.

Modern Devotional Music for Gen Z

Lovish and Prakriti perform devotional songs in contemporary styles tailored to Gen Z’s preferences. Young attendees, singing and dancing to these bhajans with their families, are enjoying the experience immensely. Parents are particularly pleased, seeing their children engage with spiritual music instead of getting lost in alcohol-fueled nightclub parties. Importantly, no one pressured the youth; they joined out of genuine enjoyment.

Rising Demand for Bhajan Clubbing

According to Lovish and Prakriti, the trend has grown steadily over the past two years. Both come from families steeped in devotional music and have sung various genres on stage. In the last two years, however, the demand for bhajan performances has surged, particularly among Gen Z.

Rock-Style Devotion

The duo has collaborated with the Keshavam Devotional Rock Band to present bhajans in rock-style arrangements. Their first family event in Haridwar saw both elders and Gen Z participants dancing to devotional tunes. This innovative approach has generated more event requests, with young attendees increasingly planning Bhajan Clubbing gatherings themselves.

The Idea Behind Bhajan Clubbing

Observing Gen Z’s growing interest in devotional music, Lovish and Prakriti conceptualized Bhajan Clubbing. Their large event in Delhi just before New Year attracted hundreds of young participants who celebrated devotion with joy and energy. The shift from “nightclubs” to “nama japa” has become symbolic—youths are no longer drawn to intoxicants, but to music and spiritual connection. The trend is rapidly spreading, with multiple advanced bookings already for upcoming events.

Benefits of Bhajan Clubbing

Some critics question the name “Bhajan Clubbing,” fearing it implies indulgence. However, organizers explain that this format effectively connects youth with devotion. By presenting bhajans in a style Gen Z enjoys, the initiative keeps them engaged in positive activities, preventing exposure to negative influences.

Unlike nightclub noise, Bhajan Clubbing offers mental peace, stress relief, and moral guidance through devotion. Participating with family strengthens bonds, while singing and dancing increase physical activity. Parents can be reassured that their children are on the right path, enjoying spiritual experiences in a modern, relatable way.
