Couple Tried Everything, Yet Pregnancy Didn’t Happen: Doctor Reveals One Major Reason Why Many Women Fail to Conceive

For couples trying to conceive, repeated failure can be emotionally draining—especially when they believe they are doing everything “right.” From tracking ovulation to changing diet and taking supplements, many leave no stone unturned. Yet, for some, pregnancy still remains elusive.

Such was the case with a 32-year-old couple who recently consulted fertility expert Dr. Mahima. Married for over two and a half years and actively trying to conceive for nearly two years, the couple was devastated by the lack of success despite meticulous planning and lifestyle changes.

A Mysterious Case of Infertility

According to Dr. Mahima, the woman’s menstrual cycles were irregular, though all other medical reports—including hormone tests and her husband’s semen analysis—were within normal limits. The couple relied heavily on ovulation predictor kits and mobile tracking apps, timing intercourse whenever the test showed a positive result.

Despite following every online and offline recommendation, pregnancy tests never turned positive.

The Hidden Culprit: Anovulation

A deeper ultrasound examination and careful analysis of her cycle pattern revealed the real issue—anovulation, a condition in which the ovary fails to release an egg during the menstrual cycle.

Dr. Mahima explained that in such cases, especially among women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), LH (Luteinizing Hormone) kits can give false positive results. This means the test may show an LH “surge” even when ovulation does not actually occur.

As a result, couples end up trying on the wrong days, unknowingly missing the fertile window month after month.

A Widespread Problem

Highlighting the scale of the issue, Dr. Mahima noted that 20–25% of infertility cases are linked to ovulation-related problems. In women with PCOS, nearly 70% of LH surges detected by kits may not correspond to real ovulation.

Key Takeaway for Couples

The expert emphasized that relying solely on ovulation kits and apps can be misleading, especially for women with irregular cycles. She advised couples facing prolonged infertility to seek medical evaluation rather than continuing blind attempts based on home tracking tools alone.

“Understanding whether ovulation is actually happening is crucial. Without proper diagnosis, couples may lose precious time and hope unnecessarily,” Dr. Mahima said.

For many women, timely medical intervention and correct identification of ovulation issues can turn years of disappointment into a successful pregnancy journey.
